The 3rd round of the world cup series saw us stop in Albertville, France. Like previous years, Event Performance built some beautiful sections in the middle of the town centre. Pictures of the event can be found here.
The semi-finals didn’t go as well as I had planned. Unfortunately, I forgot to ride gate 2 in the log section which resulted in 5pts. Apart from that one mistake, I rode a perfect semi’s with all the rest being cleans (0pts). With the sections being relatively easy, all of the points in the semi’s are cut throat close and the one 5 I made was enough to put me into 5th position for finals qualification. The other competitors finished on less than 5 pts so starting in 5th, with the new handicap rule UCI brought in, was far from ideal as I’d be starting the finals with 3pts.
I was hoping for difficult sections in the finals as this would be better for me to close the points gap. Starting from 5th meant I had nothing to lose so my plan was to clean all the sections and put pressure on the front group. With a few nerves in some sections, I managed to hold my cool and execute my plan. I rode a perfect competition and finished the finals with 0pts. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and I missed out on the win by 1pt. Congratulations to Tatiana for riding a strong race.
I’m happy to have finished on the podium after fighting hard to come back from 5th position. Now my focus is on the competition that counts…..the World Champs in Andorra on Wednesday 2nd!
Thanks to my sponsors: Expressivebikes, Ride Mechanic, Echo, Limitless Performance, World Gym Brisbane, BSMC, CEC and my minder Carles.
Also a big thanks to all the generous people who donated to my crowd funding page to get me over here to represent Australia.
